(Title I Reading Specialist/Academic Coach)

 

           

As the Reading Specialist for our school, my job is not only to plan our parent trainings, and help test all students on DIBELS, but I spend the bulk of my days in the classrooms.  I am in all K-2 classrooms daily teaching small flexible reading groups.   My job is to provide instruction to these small groups of children to address their specific needs.  Another way we address the specific needs of all our students is our "Walk to Intervention".  During this time, students are also grouped to address  targeted skills that these students need.  Our Kindergarten children also have a "Race To Reading" Time that is similar to our "Walk To Intervention"  Where beginning reading skills are taught.

 

I've told you a little about my job and teaching responsibilities, now let me briefly tell you a little about myself.  I have lived in Bluefield since 1996, But I was Title I teacher in Raliegh County for sixteen years.  I was at Memorial Elementary last year also as a Reading Specialist and Academic Coach.  Since coming to Brushfork Elementary late in September (2008), needless to say, I have been very busy, but I' not the only one busy.  I have found that everyone here has one goal in mind - to meet the needs of our students.  I am so impressed with the Brushfork staff and the parent volunteers who have a passion to do everything within their power to teach our students and help them become successful, I feel Very Blessed to be here!
